somethings are just not meant to be done alone

i have used a duvet cover since high school, when i begged my parents to get me a futon.

Why is it that 16 years later, i still HATE and struggle so badly with putting it back onto my comforter after washing it?  inevitably i end up holding one corner up in the air with one hand so i don't lose it, and then try with the other hand and an opposite elbow, and sometimes even my teeth to get the other corner of the comforter into the far left corner of the duvet, and it never works out until at least the second or third (or fourth) attempt, at which point my other arm is tired and i start to feel like the biggest moron for not yet having a simple system for completing this task.

two weeks ago i did this with michael, and it took us one try and about 2 minutes. sighh.....today, i was laughing out loud at myself as i thought the comforter was inside the duvet, but really it was underneath it and i had been blindly just moving fabric frantically all over the bed while still holding that first right corner up in the air.

it's the little things that make me appreciate my mate sometimes.

he changes the sheets for me, too.

  1. Erin: roll you comforter into a cylinder. Lay your duvet cover on the bed. Tuck the cylinder (with both hands!)into the bottom of the duvet cover w/ the edge of the roll underneath. Then unroll it inside the cover. (I'll come over and demo if these instructions are unclear.)

The prideful woman who's figured out a million crazy ways to do stuff by herself.

  3. SO glad I'm not the only one who can't get a duvet cover on to save her life.

  4. I am not sure I understand these directives, but have been sitting here trying to visualize it for several minutes. Best part is, I don't have a duvet, or a cover or any need so far to change or wash one, but am trying so hard to be prepared for the day when I will.

  5. I got INSIDE of Hudson's new Ikea duvet cover to try to get the duvet straight. I was standing up and got a little off balance, so I called to the husband to come help and in his zeal to free me, we ended up ripping the bottom seam about 4 inches. As fun as that was, maybe I'll try Leigh's method next time. Or perhaps I will never wash it again.
