aside from that here is a look into my ozark life:
-we have had one playdate with new and old friends. it was terrific.
-i locked myself out of the house on that same day, and then 3 hours later found the key in my shorts
-still no washer and dryer. michael has graciously offered to sit at the laundromat tonight for
us. i will sort the clothes and stain treat them before he goes. our neighbor offered to let us use theirs, but i refuse to do 5 loads of laundry at their house after just meeting them.
-frank and i spent one hour this morning killing ants in the kitchen. i am afraid that battle is far from over
-the wal-mart up near Rogers is so far the best grocery store in town, a bit of a drive, but i have found everything i need there (coconut milk, jasmine rice, Morning Star Chicken Nuggets). best discovery so far: orange push pops
-my house slants. it slants so bad. when you come to visit us, you will have to let me know if you want your head uphill or downhill.
-angus won't come downstairs, he has settled into our upstairs and only comes down to go outside, it appears he is afraid of something in the living room
-ford has taken to leading us, very gently by the hand to wherever he wants to go or to do something for him. this occurs about 30 times per day. yesterday he led me to a chair where he just wanted to sit next to me for a spell. this kid will melt your heart. which is good because yesterday he found a tube of lipstick and coated his body with it. gooey pink everywhere. floor, toys, iron, rug, etc. (let's not discuss that he was playing with the iron, i already know...)
-frank is loving the hills on our daily walks and is embracing all the free play time in the house while i unpack and clean and wait for repairmen. this morning i came downstairs to an easter egg hunt he had set up for me. the eggs were filled with various leggo body parts one had heads, one had suitcases, one had pants, one had guns - you get the picture. then we could "put them all back together, and now we can put on a play!"
it is not dull here. i have found good coffee, love the farmer's market, found two excellent bookstores, and a place to get donuts.
so far, so good.
EC . . . the joys of an old house, huh? Sounds like you guys are having LOTS of adventures there in the Ozarks . . .
ReplyDeleteDon't worry about Angus . . he liked to hang out for hours upstairs at our house during his visits . . .I think he likes to get away from all the activity :)
We love you and miss you terribly!
I want my head higher than my feet when I sleep there, I think.
ReplyDeleteI love this post...Eli has found slanty spots in our house where he can throw the ball and it rolls back to him. It keeps him entertained at least :-) MC
ReplyDeleteSo glad to know you're adjusting. Sorry about the washing machine. Ours was broken for 3 weeks once when Abby was 3 months old (and throwing up every 2 seconds from reflux) and it was the WORST.
ReplyDeleteDid you ever watch Mad About You? Helen Hunt was always convinced that their floor slanted.
ReplyDeletePraying that you'll feel more settled every day!
So glad you are making friends and got to hang out with Sarah and boys. Our house slants too. If we ever are missing a toy, it is an easy find . . . if it's a toy with wheels or a ball, at least. A little jealous of your time in Fayetteville. I love that town . . . .
ReplyDeleteOh yeah, and you need to change your theolson3 to theolson4 on your blog so you can read my hilariousness
ReplyDeleteHead up, please. For my sinuses.
ReplyDeleteIt's great news that Frank has been content to play around the house while you Get Situated. And Ford the Gentle Leader, well, that is just very extremely sweet.
